"Willow" Project Exploration

As a child, I would fall in love with songs that would tell narratives - an affection I still hold today. One of these was the songs was “Willow” by Jasmine Thompson. The song always felt like listening to a fairytale.

This is what inspired me to do a project with a willow tree, especially one that was magical, or fairy-tale like. Not to mention it combining with my overall love of magic (especially magic fairies).

Procedural Environment Modeling

The environment was created procedurally, with the tree leaves being animated by key framing and deforming lines, and later on copying individual leafs to its many strands.

The trunk of the tree was several swept lines with noise to create a swirly, exaggerated shape.

The lily pads were ray projected onto the water geo to move with its noise-created movements.

Fairy

Asides from the wing texture png, which was sourced from Adobe Stock Images, I am responsible for all aspects of the fairy. The sparkle animation is explored in detail in my Sparkle Study.
